Short Description Yes — a Hive9 user can be a member of any number of teams. This article explains how multi-team membership affects content access, approval rights, and team-based filtering.
What this article answers
- Whether multi-team membership is allowed (yes).
- How multi-team membership affects what a user can see and do.
- How to add or remove teams from an existing user.
The short answer
Yes. Hive9 users can belong to multiple teams. There is no built-in limit on team count per user.
How multi-team membership works
When a user belongs to more than one team, their effective permissions are the union of what each team grants:
- Content visibility — the user can see content owned by members of any of their teams (subject to their role permissions).
- Edit rights — if any one of their teams grants Can Edit Team Content = Yes, the user can edit content owned by members of that team.
- Approval rights — if any one of their teams grants Can Approve for Team = Yes, the user is an eligible approver for that team's tactics.
This means multi-team membership broadens what a user can see and act on. Use it intentionally.
How to add a team to an existing user
- Go to Settings → Users.
- Click the user's name to open their profile.
- Click Add Team and select the team to add.
- Save.

You can remove teams from the same profile screen by removing the team from the user's team list.
When multi-team membership is the right pattern
- A user spans multiple business units or regions and needs visibility into each.
- A user is an approver for several teams' tactics.
- A power user needs to edit content across teams during a transition or restructuring.
When it's a poor pattern
- Giving every user every team — defeats the purpose of teams as access controls.
- Using teams as a tagging system rather than an access boundary — consider User Categories instead.
