Most Recycle Bin restore errors clear with a refresh, the right-side per-row Restore button, or restoring parent items before dependents.
What this answers:
- Why restoring an item from the Recycle Bin sometimes fails with a generic error
- A quick sequence to try before contacting Support
- What information to bring to Support if the issue persists
A small number of recurring patterns cause Restore in the Recycle Bin to fail with a generic error message. Most of the time, one of the following resolves it without further help.
1. Refresh the page and try again
The Recycle Bin's state can drift out of sync with the underlying data — particularly if you've had the tab open for a while or if another user has been working in the same Sub-Category. A hard refresh (Ctrl-Shift-R or Cmd-Shift-R) and a fresh attempt clears the most common version of this error.
2. Use the per-row Restore button, not the top-of-page button
The Recycle Bin has two Restore actions:
- A Restore button at the top of the page, which acts on all currently selected items.
- A Restore button on the right side of each row, which acts on that single item.
In some builds, the top-of-page button is the path that fails while the per-row button works. If the top button errors, try the per-row button on the same item.

3. Check for dependency conflicts
If you're restoring a Line Item that was deleted along with related records (e.g. an associated PR), the order of restoration sometimes matters. Try restoring the parent item first (the Line Item), then the dependent (the PR). If the straightforward parent-first approach doesn't work, contact Support and we can untangle the structure.
4. If the same item still errors after a refresh, document the state and contact Support
Information that helps us resolve this quickly:
- The exact error message — a screenshot is ideal
- The Sub-Category name and the line item / record name
- Approximate time of the original deletion
- Whether the item was deleted via the UI or via an API integration
Contact Support with that detail. Recycle Bin restore errors that persist after a refresh are usually quick fixes on our side once we can see the affected item directly.
