Recovering deleted items from the Allocadia Recycle Bin

Deleted line items, folders, and other budget objects go to the Recycle Bin where they can be restored. Here's how to find and recover them.

What goes into the Recycle Bin

When you (or another user) delete a budget object — Line Item, Category, Activity Plan, Budget, Folder — Allocadia typically moves it to the Recycle Bin rather than removing it permanently. From the Recycle Bin you can:

  • See what was deleted.
  • See who deleted it and when.
  • Restore the object if needed.

The Recycle Bin is scoped per Sub-Category — each has its own view of deleted items.

Opening the Recycle Bin

  1. Open the affected Sub-Category inside your hierarchy.
  2. Locate the Recycle Bin option in the Sub-Category menu or sidebar.
  3. The Recycle Bin opens, showing deleted items for that Sub-Category.

Finding the item to restore

The Recycle Bin typically shows:

  • The object name.
  • The object type (Line Item, Category, etc.).
  • The owner at time of deletion.
  • The deleter (who removed it).
  • The deletion timestamp.

Use the Filter Panel to narrow by type, deleter, or date if there are many entries.

Restoring an item

  1. Click the item to select it.
  2. Click Restore on that row (per-item), or Restore at the top of the page to act on all currently selected items.
  3. Confirm the restore action.
  4. The item returns to its original location with its prior attributes intact.

Restore items one at a time if you've selected many — the Recycle Bin does not have a true bulk-restore action.

Permanent deletion

Items in the Recycle Bin can be permanently deleted — removed with no undo. Permanent delete typically requires admin permissions. Once an item is permanently deleted, recovering it is not guaranteed and requires contacting Support.

Common questions

How long do items stay in the Recycle Bin? There's no automatic auto-purge under normal circumstances. See How long are deleted items kept in the Recycle Bin?

Can I recover line items I deleted via the API? Yes — API-deleted items land in the same Recycle Bin and restore the same way. See I deleted line items through the Allocadia API — can I recover them?

What if Restore fails with an error? See Recycle Bin restore in Allocadia returns an error.

My item isn't in the Recycle Bin — what now? Check filters first (an item is in the Recycle Bin only if it was actually deleted, not just filtered out). If still missing, contact Support with the item name and your best guess at the deletion date.
